I am Dr. Karuna Taluja, a Consultant Psychiatrist with over 15 years of clinical experience, specialising in adult mental health. My practice encompasses the assessment and treatment of a broad spectrum of mental health conditions, with a focus on personalised, evidence-based care.

I am one of the few psychiatrists in Australia to be recognised by the RANZCP as a specialist in both General Adult Psychiatry and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, reflecting my expertise in managing complex cases at the intersection of physical and psychological health. My approach integrates a range of interventions, including psychopharmacology, psychotherapy, and lifestyle modifications, tailored to each individual’s needs.

In addition to my general psychiatry work, I have advanced training in Liaison Psychiatry, with a particular interest in the interplay between medical and mental health conditions. I also bring extensive experience in Perinatal Psychiatry, supporting individuals through the emotional challenges of pregnancy and early parenthood.

Additionally, I specialise in Functional Gut Disorders (such as IBS and somatic symptom-related GI distress), where psychological factors significantly impact digestive health. Using a biopsychosocial framework, I work collaboratively with patients—and their medical providers—to address the mind-gut connection, reduce symptom burden, and improve overall quality of life.
